How We Get Our Data
construction.broker is a free U.S. contractor directory with tools and guides for checking a contractor before you sign. It is published by Cute and Honey LLC, Houston, Texas. We are not a contractor, a government agency or a licensing authority, and we are not affiliated with any state board.
Our Promises
- No pay-to-rank. Nobody can buy a position, badge or review.
- No sold leads. We do not ask for your phone number, and you contact contractors directly.
- No invented data. We have no reviews or ratings, so we show none. A missing field means the source did not give it.
Sources (Downloaded November 6, 2026)
- Washington (66,999 records): L&I contractor license data, with its bond and insurance datasets. Active licenses with a Washington address.
- Oregon (37,498 records): Construction Contractors Board active licenses. We leave out locksmith-only, home-inspector-only and lead-only endorsements, and licensees with an out-of-state address.
- New York (12,728 records): Department of Labor Contractor Registry. This covers contractors on public work, not all contractors. Registry notes repeat the yes/no answers in that dataset.
- Other listings (13,866 records): OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, Open Database License). No license check has been done on these, and coverage is uneven.
- State license rules: summarized from a public 51-state comparison, checked by its authors 2026-09-04 to 2026-10-26. We did not verify each threshold against state law.
- City locations: U.S. Census Bureau 2024 Gazetteer.
What We Do Not Have
California, Florida, Texas and most other states are not in our license records. A contractor missing from our search may still be fully licensed, so always use the state’s own lookup. Records can change the day after we download them.
How Pages Are Chosen
- License records get a full profile when they look like a business with a phone number and, in Washington and Oregon, have both bond and insurance on record.
- Other active records, including people licensed under their own name, appear in search with a link to the state. We do not publish street addresses from license records.
- Map listings need at least two details to get a page.
- Trades come from state specialty codes and the business name, so a contractor may do more than we show.
Costs
Cost figures are our own labeled planning assumptions, not surveys or quotes. Always get written bids.
Refresh and Corrections
We plan to refresh data about every three months. The date of the current copy appears on every page. To correct a license record, contact the state board; for anything else, contact us.
